AFA’s 2010 listing of top retailers and how they recognize Christmas

Naughty or Nice?

“Based on current advertising, below is a list of companies that avoid, ban, or use the term “Christmas” in their advertising.  We will continually update the list, so check back often.

Criteria - AFA reviewed up to four areas to determine if a company was “Christmas-friendly” in their advertising: print media (newspaper inserts), broadcast media (radio/television), website and/or personal visits to the store. If a company’s ad has references to items associated with Christmas (trees, wreaths, lights, etc.), it was considered as an attempt to reach “Christmas” shoppers.

If a company has items associated with Christmas, but did not use the word “Christmas,” then the company is considered as censoring “Christmas.”

Color Code:

GREEN: Company uses the term “Christmas” on a regular basis, we consider that company Christmas-friendly.
YELLOW: Company refers to Christmas infrequently, or in a single advertising medium, but not in others.
RED: Company may use “Christmas” sparingly in a single or unique product description, but as a company, does not recognize it.

This list only reflects a company’s “Christmas” advertising and does not take into account other corporate policies AFA may not agree with…” read the full article here

JPMorgan Chase Bank: Anti-Christmas and just plain callous

JPMorgan Chase represents the Grinch who stole Christmas

According to the Star-Telegram, a local Texas businessman had assembled and decorated a 9-foot-tall tree in the lobby of the Chase Bank Southlake Boulevard branch in Tarrant County as a favor to the manager, who is one of his clients.

The branch manager was quickly told by the bank that the tree had to go. She later showed the businessman an e-mail from JPMorgan Chase saying that the tree had to be removed because some people were offended by it…”read the full article here

Yes, Virginia — there will be a ‘Christmas Parade’

“The pro-Christmas movement in America can chalk up a win after a well-known city has opted to change its “Holiday Parade” back to a “Christmas Parade.”

The capital city of Richmond, Virginia, decided to rename its annual Christmas Parade a Holiday Parade, a move supported by the parade sponsor, Dominion — one of the country’s largest producers of energy. But when the American Family Association and its supporters got wind of the decision, things changed — in a hurry.

AFA special projects director Randy Sharp explains. “We alerted our supporters in the ten states in which Dominion does business,” he says. “Within hours, hundreds of phone calls and thousands of emails were flooding into not only the Dominion company, but also into the parade organizers’ office.”

Within 24 hours, Dominion and the parade organizers decided they had had enough and announced on their website that the event would revert back to the “Christmas Parade.” Sharp says because of the efforts of AFA supporters, that decision will serve as a model for other cities…”

American Family Association - Newsletter

Here are some of the actions AFA took in September:

  • “AFA continues to expose The Home Depot’s financial and corporate support to homosexual activists and their organizations pushing for gay marriage. The number of signers pledging to boycott the company has reached over one-quarter million.
  • AFA launched Citizenship Sunday, a campaign specially designed for churches, to make the process of registering to vote simple and easy.
  • AFA webcast the Values Voter Summit free of charge. As a result, tens of thousands of patriotic Americans were able to view the entire event.
  • AFA played a critical role in defeating a Democrat-led Senate attempt to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” protecting the integrity of our nation’s military from an infusion of homosexual activists.
  • AFA exposed President Obama’s disrespect for God, when he omitted the words “By their Creator” when quoting the Declaration of Independence…”

If God Really Loves Me…Then Why Do I Suffer?

“The worse this planet becomes, the more people ask that same old question… “If God Really Loves Me…Then Why Do I Suffer?”

It’s the basis for all kinds of attacks against the God of the Bible and His teachings. It’s even used to attack the evidence of His existence and the legitimacy of the Christian faith.

The response typically given to “Do You Believe in God?,” is almost always the same. If there is a God and he loves me then he wouldn’t do that, he wouldn’t cause this, he wouldn’t allow this to happen, and on it goes. Standing Firm aims to answer those questions and counteract that kind of thinking.

- Is there a purpose in my suffering?
- Is God truly Sovereign?
- Is there a purpose in all things, even my death or someone else’s?
- Why do these things happen to me!?

“My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.”
(Psalm 119:50)

In the film Standing Firm, Dave, a widower, is working himself to death. Late nights doing paperwork and running on fumes is the norm. Bills are piling by the week, and foreclosure looms on the horizon. Blaming God for his wife’s death, he ends his relationship with the church.

His son, Steven, has been watching with great concern. Along with his grandpa and best friend Maggie, Steven works to reach his father in any way he can. Despite his grieving, Dave begins to move in the right direction seeking an answer to the question that has been haunting him since his wife’s death…WHY?
Standing Firm is a story of suffering, God’s purpose in it, and being joyful despite it.

Homosexual adoption sports new name in Michigan

“A House committee in Michigan has passed a bill granting homosexuals adoption privileges.

Last Wednesday’s vote approving “second parent” adoptions would allow unmarried or same-sex partners to jointly adopt a child. The bill was approved on a straight party-line vote — eight Democrats in favor, six Republicans opposed.”

National Day of Prayer on May 7

“The theme for this year’s National Day of Prayer on May 7 is Prayer … America’s Hope! It’s based on Psalm 33:22, which says, “May Your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in You.”This is an extremely critical time in America’s history. From economic pressures, to the ongoing threat of terrorism, to the unraveling of our culture’s moral fabric, many people are dealing with a deep sense of uncertainty and apprehension. However, we can be confident that when we come to God in humble prayer, He hears us and stands ready to respond to our cries for help. Our forefathers sought the Almighty for guidance and safekeeping; and we, too, can depend on His divine intervention if we will turn to Him in repentance and prayer. That will be our purpose as we gather with other people of faith across the nation on May 7th…”

Don’t allow President Obama to remove America’s most basic freedoms!

Contact Congress today about proposed “hate crimes” legislation - before it’s too late!

April 20, 2009

“America’s most basic freedoms of speech, conscience and the free exercise of religion are under attack and the time to act is now. If President Obama succeeds with his priority of passing the Hate Crimes law, H.R. 1913 - the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act, it could lead to the criminalization of the Biblical view of homosexuality in sermons and elsewhere. An offended homosexual could accuse a pastor, Sunday School teacher of broadcaster of causing emotional injury simply by expressing the Biblical view that homosexuality is sinful.H.R. 1913 is one more step in the campaign to legitimize homosexuality in our culture by treating it as a protected class along with race, gender, and religion. The long term goal is to create one more platform from which to eradicate wrong thinking about homosexuality. H.R. 1913 will undoubtedly pave the way to legislation that will make thinking Biblically about homosexuality a “hate crime.”

We believe prosecutors and anti-Christian groups will use loop holes in the proposed legislation to muzzle the church from speaking out on Biblical standards of morality which are shared by most Americans. Unnecessary lawsuits will bring a chilling effect to the free speech and religious liberty of our churches and of our members…”
