Why Water Lily: It’s Lilly’s charity effort.

Lilly grew-up in Romania but fled communism as an adult. Images of disadvantage and need in Romania have been in the news since the fall of communism. The Lilypad charity allows Lilly to team with her contacts in Romania and other charities to provide much needed relief without incurring overhead costs. All giving is provided directly to those in need thanks to donated shipping container space and European land transport as well as volunteers at every step.

The Water Lily (Lotus) is symbolic of rebirth, but in addition to its religious meaning, the water lily is also a symbol of all that is true, good and beautiful, representing good fortune, peace and enlightenment. A water lily represents life in general. As the water lily grows up from the mud into an object of great beauty, I want people to grow and change into something more beautiful. So the symbol represents the struggle of life at its most basic form. Water lily symbols are also popular for people who have gone through a hard time and are now coming out of it. Like the flower they have been at the bottom in the muddy pond, but have risen above this to be an object of beauty or represent a life of beauty as the case might be. Thus a water lily can also represent a hard time in life that has been overcome.
